IgnitedClan description
IgnitedClan lives on an island in the middle of the lake. Because IgnitedClan is so far away from the volcano, the other cats don’t know much about them, and think they are weak. However, IgnitedClan cats can fight just as fiercely as any other Clan, defend the Flaming Eternal like the others, and IgnitedClan cats can move more silently than anyone else. They don’t really care where you come from as much as the other Clans; you are judged on your skills in IgnitedClan. They live a possibly more peaceful life on the island, and don’t mind getting wet.
IgnitedClan Ranks
Leaders
Leadership in IgnitedClan includes watching over the Clan, making decisions, organizing the Clan, and naming a deputy. The leadership position is passed down via the deputy.
Deputies
Deputies take care of the everyday running of the Clan to make the leader’s life easier. They must be prepared to take over the Clan as leader when the leader dies or retires. The deputy is chosen by the leader when the old deputy dies, retires, or becomes leader.
Medicine Cats
Medicine cats keep the Clan healthy, and train their apprentices. If the apprentice or medicine cat cannot save a cat, it is considered the will of the Flaming Eternal, and the cat is dumped on Exile Island. Medicine cats are always consulted by the leader before action is taken.
Medicine Cat Apprentices
The medicine cat apprentice helps the medicine cat with whatever they need. They train every day to learn the herbs, and especially to learn the smell of catmint, so that they will pass their medicine cat ceremony.
Warriors
Warriors are the heart of IgnitedClan... as well as the claws. From their warrior to their elder ceremony, these strong pelts sleep in the warrior's den, but that's about all they do there. During the day, warriors are always out hunting, patrolling, battling with other Clans, and mentoring, if they have an apprentice. Warriors must also be willing to guard Exile Island in the case of prisoners, and spend some spare time searching for the sacred Heat Vent.
Apprentices
From the time they accomplish their tracking challenge to the time they complete their warrior’s ceremony, apprentices nest in the Apprentice's Den. They have many tasks around camp, including changing bedding, hunting, patrolling, and lightly training the kits. During their six moons of apprenticeship, their mentors teach them all of the skills they will need in order to become successful warriors.
Queens and Kits
Queens stay with their kits at all times, until they are five moons, when the kits become apprentices. Queens cannot mentor their kits, nor have contact with them until they become Warriors. Queens do not have to hunt for themselves. In IgnitedClan 5-6 litters of kits are born every twelve moons. The kits stay in the nursery for two moons, and then they are let out into the camp, so that when they become apprentices, they integrate better. Apprentices will teach the kits very basic skills, in preparation for their Apprentice ceremony, when they are five moons old.
Elders
To become an elder, a cat must have served a minimum of 48 moons, including apprenticeship. The leader will decide when a cat becomes an elder. Elders are taken care of by the apprentices, and are sometimes consulted by the leader on certain matters.
Territory
Overview
IgnitedClan lives on an island in the middle a lake. The island is covered in forests, full of trees including beech, silver fur, oaks, pines, and hemlocks. Somewhere in the forest there is a heat vent, but the cats have never located it. Technically, the entire lake is IgnitedClan territory, but there isn’t much they can really do with it.
Camp
The camp is in a clearing near the edge of the island which is closest to the volcano. IgnitedClan does not usually fear attack, (the lake makes attack pretty inconvenient) but their camp is still strategically placed, deep within the forest. In the center of the camp there grows a great tree, whose trunk splits in three directions a few fox lengths up. The branches are all twisted and contorted after the branches split, so this is called the twisted tree. The camp entrance is to the right of the twisted tree. The leader jumps into the center of the tree where the branches split to address the Clan. About two fox lengths behind the twisted tree, an oak tree grows. It mimics the twisted tree by splitting unto three major branches, but higher up. Ivy and soft moss grow in the crevice the tree creates. The tree has many branches and leaves, providing a thick layer of cover to the leader, as he/she sleeps in the crevice. During leaf-bare, the leader moves to the base of the tree, at which there is a hardy bush that does not die. About three fox lengths in front of the twisted tree, there is a collection of small bushes that don’t die in leaf-bare under which the apprentices make their nests. To the left of this is yet another tree, an evergreen. It is enormous; under this tree are a collection of bushes under which the warriors sleep. The bushes and the evergreen provide cover from the elements. Between the entrance and the leader’s den is a cave-like structure, make out of rocks, and covered in moss. Inside is where the medicine cat treats cats for their injuries- crevices in the rock on either side of the main cave provide storage areas. The medicine cat, his/her apprentice, and the sick cats sleep in the main cave (which is probably not advisable). Between the warriors’ den and the leaders’ den lies the nursery; a collection of different bushes under a large silver fir tree. Between the entrance and the Apprentices’ Den lies the Elders’ Den, a small bush under a young hemlock tree.
Borders
The IgnitedClan borders are simple- the edges of the lake. One side has the mountains bordering it, and another side has TimberClan territory bordering it. The other two sides are open, but it’s a hassle to cross the lake, hunt, and bring back the prey, so those lands are left virtually undisturbed except in times of trouble.
The Heat Vent
Deep inside the forest on the side of the island farthest from the volcano, there is a mysterious heat vent that makes the island warm. (Leaf-green is unbearably hot, while leaf-bare is more pleasant than for the other Clans). No cat has yet located this spot, but the cats search for it, as it may have some significant connection to the flaming eternal; it is heat coming from the earth, so rather like the volcano.
Exile Island
Off the very top of the island is a tiny patch land, barely big enough for a small camp. Any cat found to have committed a crime in IgnitedClan is taken there by force by two other cats. The two others live on the island, (some prey lives there)
And keep watch on the prisoner, who, upon arrival, was cast into a pit dug by the cats. The guards wait patiently until the cat dies. They are allowed to do whatever they please to the cat, excluding letting him/her free. But, then again, no one would know if they did, since no one but the current guards ever go there. It is said to be haunted by the spirits of traitorous cats not accepted by the Flaming Eternal for their deeds.
The Beach
On the sides of the island facing the volcano and TimberClan territory, there is a large beach. This is where cats keep look out for an attack- two at a time are usually there, so that one cat can stay to watch the attackers, and the other can run back to the camp and get reinforcements. The IgnitedClan cats always fight battles on this beach, so that other cats will never know where their camp is. It is very popular among the IgnitedClan mentors to take their apprentices and keep look out- while they are up there, they train. Cats stay at the beach for days at a time, and patrol it.
The Fish Cliff
On the side of the island that faces nothing, (left of the mountains, across from the beach) there is a very steep cliff. Down in the water below the cliff, there are gigantic, multi-colored fish- they would feed the entirety of IgnitedClan. Unfortunately, no cat can catch them because the cliff is so steep, that if anyone tried to climb down to the small beach to catch them, they would fall and break their necks. Furthermore, if one were to swim up to the beach from another direction, the fish would scatter, and not come back for moons.
Rank Ceremonies
Becoming an Apprentice
A kit can become an apprentice once its reached its fifth moon. When the leader sees fit, a pelt is hidden within the camp. The kit must then use its tracking skill to find this target in half an hour. If it cannot find it in time, it has to wait until next sun.
Becoming a Pelt
Once an apprentice has been training for six moons, he must go out into the forest and search for the Heat Vent for one week. He must live on his own for said period of time, with no help from any other cat. In fact, if any other cat hears him in his journey, he must be turned in to the leader and must wait another moon before he can try again. If any cat were to find the heat vent, they would automatically become leader.
Becoming a Deputy
On the night after the deputy is announced, he must make a solitary journey to the Rabbit Warren in TimberClan territory and steal one of the rabbits. BUT he cannot yet eat the prey. He must take it back to his Clan and have the leader inspect it for TimberClan scent. When it is approved, the new deputy is the first to take a bite, and then the other IgnitedClan pelts must share it in mockery.
Becoming a Leader
Once the previous leader has died, the current deputy must take control. The night after the loss, the deputy must travel to Exile Island and sleep there beneath the watchful eyes of both the guards and the flaming eternal. Come morning, he must rise before the prisoners, both living and dead, and declare: "I, _____soul, come before my ancestors to declare my undying loyalty to my Clan. May they guide me and keep my decisions just, helping me to right your wrongs and weed out the Pelts from the cats!"
Becoming a Medicine Cat
In order for a medicine cat apprentice to become a medicine cat, the previous one must have joined the ranks of the Flaming Eternal. Upon this cat's death, the new cat must journey into the forest to find the rare and desired cat mint, used for curing green/whitecough. The previous Medicine Cat must have vowed upon their rank never to tell where the cat mint may be found.
Becoming a Medicine Cat Apprentice
Once a kit has reached its fifth moon, it can become a medicine cat apprentice. A pelt in the Clan must volunteer to feign sickness - but the apprentice must not know this. However, it must be able to tell that the cat is not actually sick. If it can't determine this, then it is not the destined apprentice.
Becoming an Elder
In order to become an elder, a pelt must have served IgnitedClan for 48 moons, including apprenticeship (there may be circumstantial exceptions). The Clan leader will decide when a cat is ready and will conduct the ceremony.
Other Traditions
Death
Once a Pelt has died, it is taken to the middle of camp for all of the cats to share tongues with it. Once everyone is satisfied, the newest Pelt tells the leader where it suspects the heat vent is, and the cat is brought in that direction for a day's journey, and then it is buried. If the cat was unpopular and of very little rank, it is buried in Exile Island.
Taking In Prisoners
When a cat is determined an enemy to the Clan, two of the Pelts take the new prisoner to Exile Island, where two guard cats are waiting. They force the incoming cat into a pre-dug pit, where they guard it until its death.
