BlazeClan description
BlazeClan is the clan closest to the heart of the Flaming Eternal, the great fiery clan, ruler of them all. None of the other Clans dare to attack, or even come near them out of fear. They are the Clan who never leaves their home in the ashes and flame of the live volcano, or when they do, something horrible is bound to happen. All cats in the lesser Fiery Clans live in constant fear and awe of this Clan, and fear of who they are controlled by.
Ranks
The Eternal
The Eternal is the most powerful cat, not only in the Clan, but in all of the Fiery Clans. He is the sole leader of them all.
The Forsaken
This cat is the cat destined to be the Eternal. They are born with a mark upon their forehead and violet eyes wide open. Once the Forsaken is born, they have special training and ceremonies, and when the old Eternal joins the Flaming Eternal, the Forsaken becomes the new Eternal.
The Sky Charter
The Sky Charter is the one who keeps track of the stars and planets, and especially the sun and moon, to predict sacred times, such as the eclipse, and even events that will occur in the future.
The Speaker of the Eternal
The Eternal only ever speaks on Eclipses or to the Forsaken. The Speaker is the cat who was born with the job of speaking the Eternal's words. A cat is born to be the speaker only if they are assigned while in the womb. They might be assigned by the Speaker saying "The first kit to exit the womb shall be my apprentice!"
Pelts
The Pelts (warriors) of BlazeClan are the fighters, the protectors. Legend says that if there is a ceremony through the night, the next morning they can become fiery demons to wreak havoc on their opposition. This theory, however, has never been tested.
Apprentices
Each apprentice is taught by one chosen mentor how to protect and serve the Clan, and, above all, the Flaming Eternal.
Queens and Kits
The queens are female warriors who have been gifted with kits. These kits, unless born otherwise, will be taught in the ways of a BlazeClan warrior. Before they join the apprentices, the kits of BlazeClan stay in the nursery, and are not allowed to wander about. Once the training begins, however, they are worked very hard.
Elders
There are very few elders in this clan. Most have been sacrificed before they can join the ranks of the elders, but the Eclipses are rare enough that there are a few who survive. The Eternal may be older than any elder.
Territory
The Entrance
The sole entrance to the inside of the volcano is the spout, the hole in the top. The pelts of BlazeClan don't usually go out, so it doesn't matter if there is boiling lava coming out.
The Main Area
The main area is where the warriors sleep. It is also where meetings are held, as well as ceremonies.
The Apprentice's Den
This is where the apprentices sleep. An apprentice rarely leaves the den unless called, teaching the young cat obedience. However, if they are favored by the high cats, the young cat may do as they please.
The Training Area/Caves of Fire
This is where apprentices are trained, and where the apprentice ceremonies are held. There are embers and lava pooled around the cave, so it teaches young BlazeClan cats how to survive with those around.
The Nursery
The nursery is the most comfortable area in the volcano, but not by much. They use lichen, the only soft material near them, as bedding, but there is only enough for the nursery. It is very well protected by the huge stalactite that prevents anyone from getting there straight from the entrance. Elders also occupy this space, resting and helping to care for kits.
The Eternal's Den
The Eternal's den is another den that has bedding, but his bedding is ash, sooty ash from the walls. He has made it into a nest at the top ledge of the den, where it is darkest. The Forsaken, if there is one, sleeps on the other ledge. They have to walk through the curtain of lava drops to get to the main camp.
The Sky Den
The Sky Den is where the Sky Charter sleeps and records the stars. He looks through the Sky Hole in his roof to the stars.
The Speaker's Den
This is where the Speaker for the Eternal lives and sleeps when he is not with the Eternal, which is rare. The den, below the Sky Den, is usually empty, abandoned.
Den of Secrets
This is the most mysterious den of all the dens, even the Eternal's. This is where cats must sleep before they become warriors, during their vigil. No one knows for sure unless they experience it, but legend has it the new warrior must sleep on a bed of live coals.
The Jagged Cave
This is a place very few cats know about, usually used for secret meetings. It can only be accessed straight from the entrance, however, and is well hidden. A cat rarely finds out about it without being shown.
The Prison
The Prison is where cats are left to rot in their own misery... Disobey the Eternal, or trespass on the territory of BlazeClan, you will be thrown in here.... And be forgotten. Most cats die in a matter of weeks if they come to this place, and though there is no door on the prison, any who try to escape are caught... And killed.
The Path of Shadows
The Path of Shadows is the area where the lava is, the entrance being in the entrance to the camp. This is where the Forsaken must walk, when the lava is hard and cold, to become the next Eternal.
Rank Ceremonies
Becoming an Apprentice
Once a kit is deemed ready by the Eternal, no matter what age, they are challenged to eat one of the sacred embers of the volcano. This is said to ignite the soul, so that they are able to join the Flaming Eternal and be granted with the powers of the flame. If a kit cannot do this, they are deemed unready and sent back to the nursery. If a kit dies before the ignition ceremony, they are not allowed to join the high ranks of the Flaming Eternal and must forever wander the outskirts.
Becoming a Warrior
To become a warrior, an apprentice must sleep one night in the Den of Secrets. Nobody knows for sure what happens there, unless they experience it, but if the cat arrives in the main area the next day, they become a warrior. Many never return.
Becoming the Forsaken
A cat is born to be the Forsaken, not chosen. This kit will be born with it's violet eyes open, and a strange white marking on it's forehead. The Forsaken is taken into special training by the Eternal immediately, and no ignition ceremony is necessary, as the Forsaken is born with a soul like fire.
Becoming the Eternal
Once the old Eternal joins the Flaming Eternal, an age old ceremony is held and the Shaken becomes the new Eternal. The Forsaken goes on a Silent Walk, where they learn the true secrets of the Flaming Eternal. They must walk the path of darkness, when the fires of the mountain are still, mourning the passing of another Eternal. The lava hardens into an igneous rock, only for a brief period of time, but when the Forsaken hears the chants of the Flaming Eternal, hailing him as the new Eternal at the end of his Silent Walk, the lava heats, breaking apart and flowing naturally once again. Their name prefix is also changed to Eternal.
Other Traditions
Death
Once a cat dies, they are placed in the lava of the Fire Caves to burn away. If it was a cat who died failing to complete a rank ceremony, they are dumped without ceremony.
Eating
The pelts of BlazeClan only eat once a moon, and that is when the moon is full. Whether there is another curse or if it is a strange ceremonial custom to do with the Flaming Eternal, nobody knows.
Curses
An age old curse was placed upon those of BlazeClan. They are eternally parched. That is their one weakness, though it is hard for anyone to find out. They cannot touch water.
The Eclipse
The Eclipse is the most sacred time for all the fiery Clans. The Sky Charter tells when the next Eclipse is, then all the Clans gather that day on the slopes of the volcano. One of the pelts from a Clan is chosen for a great honor; to be sacrificed. They will go to the Flaming Eternal as a Sacrificed Soul, and be one of the most honored members. This is the only time the Eternal speaks to anyone other than the Shaken. It is said that his voice is like a shudder from the belly of the mountain, booming, deep, echoing for miles like a clap of thunder. To sacrifice the cat, the guards take the sacrificed one to the top of the volcano for everyone to see, before taking the cat into the belly of the mountain to drown them in the lava. However, no one really knows exactly what happens, other than the Eternal and the guards.
