Echopool had been wandering the volcano, lost in thought. She glanced up at the volcano, the bubbling lava seeming to groan in aching pain with the way it swished and swashed and bubbled all around in the volcano. The only way Echopool could tell this was by listening to the sickening sounds of lava. It made Echopool sick to her stomach to even look at the volcano. It made her chest feel all twisted up as thoughts of her dead father swarmed her mind like buzzing bees.
'Father...' Echopool thought. She could almost swear she heard her father's voice behind her. "It's okay." The voice said, and Echopool swung around in excitement. But her excitement turned to dismay as she realized there were no cats to be seen, let alone her father. Echopool heaved a deep sigh that made her whole body ache as she turned. Echopool glanced up in sadness at the normally blue sky that was now red, brown, and gray with ash that arose from the volcano. Echopool's whole body felt limp as she bravely climbed towards the edge of the volcano like she did on that fateful day, even though she wasn't sure if she was allowed to. Echopool glanced down at the fiery depths of the volcano and felt almost like she wanted to throw up, as she felt as though she was only an inch from falling into the lava to her death, even though she was on the slope of the volcano and not the edge. 'I'm sorry, father. I shouldn't have been a spoiled mouse-brain as a kit. I just... wanted to know her...' Echopool thought with a tiny smile. '...I-I just.... wanted to know my mother...'

Rustpaw noticed that his mentor Roantail was distracted. He was now glad that Molten existed. He wondered away from his mentor, and he didn't even notice that Molten had a small stroke or whatever. As he wondered away, he noticed Echopool. She looked sad. Rustpaw was concerned when he realized she was staring at the lava in disgust. How could she? Even Molten, the Clan's wierdest cat looks at the lava in awe. Rustpaw's mentor and Clanmates encouraged him to respect the lava, because the spirits of his Clanmates swim in it. Rustpaw couldn't help but to walk up to Echopool and rudely ask, "How could you look at the lava that way?!" He tried keeping his voice low, nervous about Roantail discovering he walked away. Weren't apprentences sopposed to always stay with their mentors?
He didn't expect his question to be answered, but he craved for an answer. That was one of the most important question he's ever asked. He was now even more curious about this Pelt. Now she walked out of the volcano. "HEY!! ECHOPOOL YOUR NOT ALLOWED TO LEAVE THE VOLCANO! THE ETERNAL IS GOING TO PUNISH YOU!" he screamed. He didn't care that he was being heard now, he would be rewarded for sticking up for the Clan's religon. Rustpaw has never seen any cat walk out of the volcano, but he thought he remembered a cat telling him it was a horrible crime. Was it punished by death? Nobody knows. Even Rustpaw's brother Sunkit who wants to be the coolest cat in the world knew not to leave the volcano.

Echopool heard Rustpaw and sighed. She crawled back into the volcano and shook her head. "I was just checking out the outside." She told the apprentice, slightly angered that her thoughts had been interupted. Echopool sighed and began walking away from the apprentice, not caring if he followed her or not. She did care about her clan, but her frustration and sadness seemed to cloud her judgement as well as her vision.
It was hard for Echopool to even realize where she was going when she was lost in her deep thoughts. It would take quite a bit for Echopool to be pulled from them like she had just been when she noticed she had been leaving the volcano. Echopool turned back at where the apprentice was and kept walking. Then eventually she got back to thinking about her father and never knowing her mother. Echopool always tried not to think these sad thoughts, but it was hard because whenever she'd push them out of her mind, they'd always seem to find a way to fly back into her face again in a way so she would be forced to think about them.

Rustpaw was angered. She was just checking outside? "What kind of excuse is that!?" he meowed angrily, "You aren't allowed to leave the volcano no matter what! Eternalstorm is going to be so dissapointed when I tell him what you did!" Rustpaw was now feeling like a mother. And mothers are female. Rustpaw was probably secretly part female. He felt the emotions of a female cat and had a motherly instinct. He was now getting angry, remembering his younger brother teasing him about that. I'm a male, I swear! he told himself, don't let Sunkit tell you otherwise. In a way, he did not believe what he just said. Did he just lie?
Rustpaw kind of didn't want to tell Eternal about Echopool now. It was either because he was scared to go to the Eternal or just plain lazy. Whatever. He'll just tell Roantail after this wierd cat goes to sleep.

Echopool dug her claws in the ground as she walked, the ground crumpling when she did. 'That apprentice is nothing but a mouse-brain. He has no idea the pain I've endured....' She thought rather bitterly which was really unlike her. Echopool mumbled to herself, ignoring the annoying apprentice and continuing on her walk. She sighed. "I need to forget all these thoughts... all of them took place... so long ago..." Echopool whispered to herself, her light pawsteps not making a sound except for the sound of her claws digging into the ground with each step.
