The territory was familiar. It had been many moons since he had seen this area, despite infrequent but often overpowering urges to return and watch - just to watch. They always left him eventually; he had learnt to sit them out. This time, though, he had given in. He would watch - just watch - and see whether the silvery she-cat was still there. He had been watching for two days now, watching her comings and goings. She was still medicine-cat, from what he could see, and appeared to have her own apprentice now - a silly little thing that caught his fancy. She was still a pretty cat, graceful as she had always been. He didn't know exactly what it was about her that drew him back. It didn't matter. He was here to watch, to lurk in the shadows, to stalk beneath the trees that seemed so strangely familiar despite the time lapse. To remind himself that she was only a she-cat and that there were hundreds of others exactly like her. Hundreds of others just waiting for him to interfere in their mundane lives...
She was with other cats just now. That little apprentice of hers, the one that couldn't seem to keep her mouth shut for more than a few seconds together. Another little cat that seemed to be an apprentice as well, and was obviously hiding something. And there was another cat - a big she-cat who seemed to take everything serenely. He watched as the ginger tabby made a neat kill and suddenly decided that watching was going to be monumentally boring. With a self-satisfied purr and a flick of his ridiculously long tail, Jasper slipped down through the trees and entered the little clearing. He let his eyes rove over the group first, then sat down and tipped his head thoughtfully to one side. By force of habit, he cocked one ear up and laid the other back as he surveyed the cats before him.
"Hello, darling," he murmured. "It's been a long time. Care to introduce your friends?"
ooc:: THERE. SOMETHING HAPPENED.
